I decided over a year ago to get healthier and train for a half marathon. Got a little side tracked with what started as a catch in my knee, progressed to arthroscopic surgery to remove a bone chip.
This simple surgery ended with the Doctor telling me afterwards that the back of my knee cap was in much worse shape than he thought. He scraped the loose bone chips and drilled some holes to help it heal... yea, i know :o
8 days later (day before Christmas eve) I felt like I had pneumonia, pain in my side when breathing. After trying to sleep thru the pain, I conceded and off to the ER we went, because everyone wants to spend their Christmas vacation in the ER. They sent me home 7 hours later telling me I had pneumonia. FINALLY able to sleep, after being awake for 25 hours, off to bed I went. Only to be woken 3 hours later with a call from the hospital saying "Um, we double checked your x-rays and CAT scan and are going to need you to come back and be admitted. You have blood clots in your lungs" Never heard of a pulmonary embolism before that day. Know what they are now. Spent the next 5 days in the hospital with them thinning my blood so the clots would go away.
I am now post 1 year from my surgery and PE's. I have had a cortisone shot in my knee to help with my arthritis (that I didn't know I had until deciding to get healthy). I am finally ready to start again.
Wish me luck :)
